THE VERVERI MUSIC ENSEMBLE

is the continuation of the "Harsaniats" trio
which has existed during the 1978-1990 years.

Gerard Madilian and Ara Madilian have played
respectively Duduk and Dhol in it.

Trio at first, quartet at times, Harsaniats
played original pieces, melodies and ancient tunes
from different regions of Armenia resurfaced from oblivion.

These tunes exclusively interpreted to the sound of Duduk
have been retrieved thanks to recordings
made in Armenia during the 1950-1960 years
and engraved on 78-rpm discs.

In the late 1980s, Armand Sarian joins
the Madilian brothers to take part in concerts
that will take place in Parisian cultural centers
and provincial towns.

Later, an electronic keyboard will allow
to harmonize these ethnographic tunes
which were played previously in the traditional way
(Duduk, second Duduk, Dhol).
This will significantly enrich that musical universe
with more harmonies, counterpoints,
leaving also free flow to inspiration...

With Jeanine Tchaloyan, author of compositions on piano,
the principles of popular modal music
will merge with those of classic music.

This concept will create Ververi in 2004.

"PASSER OF MEMORY"
Ververi music ensemble endeavours to promote
and share this musical memory
so that it does not fade into oblivion.

INSTRUMENTS
An electronic Keyboard,
three Duduk including a Dam, popular oboes,
a Dhol, traditional drum.

THE MUSICIANS

Jeanine Never Tchaloyan

Jeanine Never Tchaloyan, after Piano studies
in the Music Conservatory, applied herself
more to creation than to performance.
Her musical landscapes emphasize chants
and traditional tunes lost over time.
She innovates by refreshing these ancient musics
mixing in it new chords, melodies and counterpoints,
merging classical chords with the Armenian
modal music principles.
Composer of numerous musical pieces
on Piano and electronic Keyboard, she integrates
high moments of tradition, creating
a subtle link between the past and the present.

Gerard Madilian

Gerard Madilian, Duduk player even as a youth
passionate by traditional Armenian and Georgian
music and dance, transmits a musical memory
fading more and more into oblivion.
Ancient musics of Armenian country of the area
of Ararat, of Shirak, of Lori, of Zangezur as well as
of regions of Western Armenia are updated.
Researcher of ancient ancestral melodies, he continues
to transmit these unusual character musics.

Ara Madilian

Ara Madilian, autodidact having an innate sense of
rhythm, has been inspired by the style of the former Dhol
players of Armenia, Vladimir Yegoryan, Hrach Apkaryan
and of the Georgian Djumber Aslamazashvili.
He customizes his style while remaining true to
ancient masters' musical principles.

Armand Sarian

Armand Sarian, inspired by different Duduk players
of Armenia, has found his personal style of expression.
His family environment, of Armenian culture,
naturally encouraged him to music practice,
particularly of Duduk.

Arby Gharibian

Arby Gharibian grew up in the United States
in a family from Iran, steeped in his family
traditions and passionate about Armenian
and contemporary music...
He is one of the rare musicians attracted by the
practice of the Dam on Duduk, a traditional drone
held with circular breathing, an important part
of traditional musical expression.
Arby joined Ververi in 2020.
